If you are currently on v3.5 and higher and on an active support contract, all you need to do is install the software, no activation needed.

In order to install the v19.5 software update, you will need your S6 console to be on a current Avid Support Plan. Your console came with 1 year of Avid Advantage ExpertPlus support with Hardware Coverage so please check your support plan expiration date. There are several options for renewing coverage (even if your plan has recently expired). The S6 Guide v19.5 says of the new function for the Process Module's FUNC switch:

"Pressing the Func switch on a CPM toggles the automation enable of all controls in the currently focused EQ, Dyn, or Insert function on/off."

Does this mean that the automation becomes un-enabled, meaning that the automation lanes for that automation type are deleted, or does this mean that the automation type is made inactive, meaning that the automation remains in place, but does not work until toggled to active status?

Toggling the enabled / un-enabled seems very destructive, while toggling active / inactive seems more useful.

Which is it?

I would try it out myself, but we have not yet upgraded to 19.x.x, and I am locked out of my facility due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The FUNC switch intentionally ONLY enables automatable parameters on plug-ins (for INS, EQ and DYN views) but does not disable them if you press it again.
