Compelling upgrade reasons
I do mostly acoustic music. I have MBox2 and last PT8 version. Are there any compelling reasons for going to 9?

So, no cool never-seen-before features?

Re: Compelling upgrade reasons
Most of the features are useful if you're doing gigantic pop productions, such as higher track count, delay compensation, and VCA tracks (with Complete Toolkit). Also basic timecode function for video/film. None of this will really be much use if you're doing acoustic stuff.
The only real reason is if you absolutely want to use a non-Digi/Avid interface. Then I suppose it would be worth the upgrade. |

I think non-avid interfaces is a huge reason to switch. Also, the crossgrade may not be around forever. $250 is one thing, $600 is a whole other. |
Re: Compelling upgrade reasons
Don't quite get what you mean by non AVID interface...so, no nice additional plugs etc?
PS 600 sounds steep for the future, but I'd probably get it for free in case I need a new MBox. |
Re: Compelling upgrade reasons
With Protools 9, you don't have to use an interface made by Avid/Digidesign. You can use pretty much any interface. For example, an Apogee Duet. Or Focusrite Saffire 56. Or RME Fireface, etc. It doesn't have to be an Mbox or 003, etc. This is one of the biggest features about Protools 9.
