Computer Buying Assistance
Hello Forum,
I am having a very difficult time choosing a new computer. I am looking at the 2018 Apple Macbook Pro 15" with i9 and 32gB of Ram vs. a Lenovo Thinkpad P72 with a Xeon E2186M and 32 GB ECC Ram. with a Student discount, I'm looking at $4600 for Apple after some accessories and $5300 for the Lenovo. My main concerns that I can't seem to find any answers to are this - What kind of performance will I see for Pro Tools Ultimate 2018, and Adobe Premiere Pro. Currently all of my data is formatted for Mac (some 60TB worth) and I'm running a Sonnet Tech Echo 15+ Thunderbolt Dock, an Apollo Thunderbolt 2 Satellite, and a Thunderbolt HD Native connected to a Apogee Symphony MK 1. I don't mind losing the use of Logic Pro, but I'm having performance issues on my current 2013 Retina 13" w/ 16 GB Ram and an i7. Hoping to get some insight, since I'm feeling a bit lost right now. It's a big investment... Thanks! |
Re: Computer Buying Assistance
Hmmm, $4600 for a MBP sounds way over-priced to me. Do you really NEED a laptop? With a desktop, you can get much more performance for much less money(like a Mac Mini or iMac 27", i7, 6-core). If its gotta be a laptop, I would look at Apple refurbished. A late i7 quad with lots of RAM should do nicely and be well under $2K:o

Why are you dragging up 6-8 month old threads all over the forum today?
