Digidesign VS AVID
Has anyone besides me wondered why the quality of the product (Pro Tools 9) has gotten worse since AVID took over?????? All i see on the DUC is problems!!

Re: Digidesign VS AVID
I run PT9 and it's great. Could you be more specific?
|
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
The DUC is all about problems. Users helping other users.
The vast majority of pro tools users don't have problems specific to pro tools. IMHO |
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
And for your info, Avid actually bought Digidesign about 15 years ago. It's only recently that they rebranded the name, and got more involved in making positive changes, moving out the old guard that was stuck in their ways.

PT 9 has been pretty darn solid for me. Easy install, no issues. The new features are terrific and Tech Support has been more much more active in the forums as of late. Frankly, I'm impressed. In fact the only issues I've ever had with PT were in PT 6LE... but they were addressed fairly quickly. I even screwed up some KEXT file permissions by doing something stupid and PT didn't blink! |

And yes, DUC is here to solve problems, that's why most threads are about them. The majority of satisfied users simply doesn't write here, because there's no reason for it. ;) |
And I think pt9 has brought people back to pro tools and brought in people that haven't used pro tools before. So there has been an increase in trouble shooting installation problem threads. Which are usually unrelated to the software. So I'm with every one else. If anything pro tools has gotten better since avid started making changes.

PT 9 & PT 9 HD have been the most reliable and nimble release for me since I started with PT 3.2.
YMMV. |
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
I agree....PT9 is great and Avid has done a lot of things right lately. I am back to enjoying the process. Just having the ability to consider using interfaces that others use and rave about is great. ADC...the new Eleven Rack update. Stellar.

Re: Digidesign VS AVID
PT9 (and AVID) is just fine.
But a lot of people that are new to PT (Avid's "native"-strategy seems to work) are just seemingly not interested in reading README-files and searching the knowledge-based to resolve simple (documented) issues. Sounding off on forum board seems to be more attractive. |
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
Workin' pretty darn good here, too. Some bugs, but no deal breakers.

Re: Digidesign VS AVID
I have owned PT since PT7, I have used Samplitude and Sonar as my primary tools for years. Since the release of PT9, I have moved most projects to PT.
The primary reasons for my move includes: #1 Improved stability and universal installer #2 ADC on non-HD systems #3 Open Hardware #4 Improved Compositing (still not as good as Sonar - but better than PT7) #5 Cross OS platform I will always still use Samplitude, and Sonar because they are great tools, as is PT. I think the Avid brand has done much to demonstrate an improved interest in Customer Satisfaction and presented a road map for studios and individuals to find the proper product for themselves in the most cost effective manner. I know some folks had negative value shifts in their PT investment during some of the changes, but I think Avid did it's best to provide the most people with the most options in upgrading and cross grading. Avid has addressed the obvious and tremendous host power available now - I think their HD strategy makes sense moving forward, not looking backward. So my summary is Avid has made improvements in Image, Road Map, Technology, Flexibility. They could have just igonored us eh? Best -D |

If you're saying that the products have gotten worse in the last 15 years, then you're mistaken. If you're saying the products have gotten worse since the Avid logo has been put on the products, then you're also mistaken. M-box 3 series, Omni, 16x16 I/O, PT 9 are all superior products to the older products. |
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
Im running PT 9 HD and it is AMAZING! I have not had any problems. The ONLY thing I have noticed is if I undo a recording (not using the Command Period (.) but Edit:Undo Recording) the files will skip a number (meaning instead of going from take 1 to take 2 it will skip to take 3, UNLESS I close the session and reopen it.... this does make it difficult for quick scene shooting as we use the file names to reference the different takes and sometimes I don't have time to close a session and reopen it between takes. The command period works great unless your chasing timecode as it will remove the recording and then re-lock to timecode and start a new recording immediate, but other than that it is amazing.

Yeah me too!! PT9 has been amazing to me! Now I might be on a Mac which doesn't have as much problems as windows but on both Mac and PC sides PT9 seems to be amazing for me! I haven't had ANY problems at all with PT9 that I did in 7 or 8! Just gotta know how to maintain your gear;) But I think AVID(which bought digidesign a WHILE back) is better!

Maby Windows 7 is a better platform than XP. Maby the software it self has become more stable. Maby it's because I have choosen the right hardware. Maby it's a combination of all the three. I don't know. Shure it crashes sometimes, but I have a self built pc based on the I7 thread, so I really cant complain because it's not officially supported hardware. However I do wish Avid would get better at keeping officially supported hardware current. I also would like to se they officially support a couple of self built pc's aswell. |
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
I think the industry is pretty impressed by Avid Audio presently. Sorry to hear you have problems.
Pro Tools 9 has been liberating here and equated to further purchases of Avid products from me. Infact I'm looking at some cheap m-audio stuff for messing around while I'm in the kitchen cooking dinner. Open Pro Tools is a winner. Props to Avid. Mike. |

The DUC is a help forum. Users post to get help with problems. I wonder what kind of posts the OP expects from a help forum? |
Re: Digidesign VS AVID
Wrong assumptions made by the OP. Avid managed to make this things better. We got so many good things it's hard to make a list. :)
But as I (and many others) thought, with the hardware freedom, different problems arise, but those are not necessarily Avid related ones. Not to mention pilot error related situations. If you carefully look through the topics and the solutions, it's clear that the popularity of pt9 brought in many new pro tooler, who commit many simple errors. Not to mention the fact that this is really a user forum (we try to help each other), so the majority who just use pt daily without a hiccup, doesn't come here to make huge love fests for avid. :) |
