+4 dBu or -10 dBv analog in Omni
Hello.
Something I have not thought much about is weither to use +4 dBu or -10 dBv when recording through my Neumann M149 and Aurora GTQC preamp. I notice that to get a healthy signal into Omni/Pro Tools at +4 dBu the VU meter needle on my preamp is going into the red area (right). The signal sounds fine tho. Not distorted. Setting analog line input to -10 dBv the VU meter operates in the lower area (left). But the signal into Pro Tools is also fine at this setting. Hmm, what do I ideally use, +4 dBu or -10 dBv ? |

+4 is generally considered professional and -10 is generally considered consumer. Most stuff we do with higher end gear should be at +4.
