Help Converting .ptx to .ptf

Hello to all! I have a session that was recorded in .ptx in the studio, but now I'm trying to edit the session on my own version of protools (version 8) and it won't let me open it because of the .ptx - .ptf difference. Is there anyway that any of you convert this session or provide me any help with regard to this situation? As I understand users with PT10 and above can convert .ptx to .ptf by using the "save as" feature. Would anyone be willingly to do this. Any help would very much appreciated.

I've uploaded the session, along with the session backups and put them into a zip file. Is there anything else I should do?

Simple! Use 'Save Copy In' and choose the old session format. That's it!

Edit: I understand you don't have access to PT10 right now. Sorry, I didn't read carefully...

I'll convert them for you. Just upload the PTX file, not the whole session.

Sent you a PM. You are a life-saver! I really really appreciate it. :-)

Wasn't expecting this to happen so fast. A warm welcome, thank you.

Check your PMs. I sent you a link to the PTF file along with the session notes.

Hello mesaone,

Apologies for this, but may I ask for the same favor?

I opened up (or at least attempted to) a project from 2015 and was met with the same problem. I still use Pro Tools 8 on OS X 10 and unfortunately self taught :( but this hole I cannot seem to get out of!

In the open folder the 'Kind' is usually as you know 'Pro Tools Session', but this one is 'Pro Tools LE Document'.

Am I screwed?

Thanks.

And also, how did I get there in the first place?

Just a quick reminder, you can always get the 30 days Trial of Pro tools 11, open the session, save copy in to PTX (Pro tools session 7 -> 9) and then open iit with PT8

Re: Help Converting .ptx to .ptf

I have sessions that need converting as well! Can anyone help??

On a related note...
I’m concerned there’s a lot of old timers like me using legacy Pro Tools software and folks will keep running into this issue of trying to open a newer session on an older machine. I’d like to start a database/shared folder of people able to convert Pro Tools .ptx files and people in need of files converted. Here’s my plan, I have a folder here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvUJM3nvi2EegcVH...T8qzA?e=rw8whv
That is meant to be a public folder and repository for files that need to be converted. In it are 2 files, a README text with instructions on how to use the shared folder, and a spread sheet database for listing people willing to be contacted for converting files. My thought is that people who are able to convert .ptx files can list contact information in the database and then people in need can reach out to people on the list and coordinate sharing files. The person that needs files converted would create a folder and upload the session files, and the person doing the converting would upload the converted sessions to the same folder. I even have a column in the database for Venmo links so people doing conversions can get cash donated to them for the effort :) Is this a crazy idea? Would anyone be interested in joining the effort?
