Most consoles drop the level 3 db when summed to mono to avoid this volume increase.........
So how is the analogue section of ProControl? The monitor problem sounds obnoxious. Digi will you fix this?
Would you PC users recommend ProControl?

Yup. All 5, count em', 5 PC's are monitor funky. Digi has been sympathetic in offering a soulution, but very resistant to offering it for free. I think that if a monitor section on a console is out of whack by XdB, the manufacturer should offer a factory repair free of charge. The console was over $10K, and can't produce an accurate L R image. That seems very embarassing to say the least. I have to tweak my genelec's in each studio to an "apparently" correct L R image. Frustrating. My editors are begining to think we should have bought something else. We like the product, it works well (Sans the monitor PITA), but Digi just seems Hell-bent to shoot themselves in the foot over this issue. THE MONITOR SECTION DOES NOT WORK RIGH. IT DOES NOT WORK LEFT, EITHER. THIS SHOULD NOT BE AN "OPTION", repariable at my cost. I could see Recaro seats in my Jeep cherokee an option, but not "steering wheel" as an option. Fairly important part, and is expected by a consumer. Especially for the cost of the product. Yeah, when we checked out the procontrol, Left and Right seemd correct, in the small demo studio, with funky walls. Sounded transparent, and we were sold on how cool it works with PT. We bought them. They arrived, sounded L R out of whack, and now I have to pay to have them fixed. Sounds like a good ol' fashioned backhand from digi. My hope is that our local Digi guy will make some headway on getting us the stuff for free (he is great btw, out of Portland), but it is crazy that I have to even make that call. Come on Digi, this is total crap, and insulting. It is bad enough that I have to field repair these things. To pay on top of that? Silly. Step-up, and kick over monitor sections that work. 5 of them please.

Same problem with mine, but found a temporary fix... I had a tech open the PC and found that the main volume control is a multi-channel pot. Only for people mixing in stereo, you can disable the routing of the main output by disconnecting the connector, and connect that same connector to the second bus on the main pot (Just leave the second connector unplugged for the moment). It worked for me, but as I said it will only work for stereo mixes. Anyways, it at least calms me while waiting for my new pot...

Hi,

has anyone, anywhere received the "upgrade" monitor section and can comment on it?
This is getting embarrassing...i have to do something about our PCs soonish ..
Or, when our clients ask us to turn down the level, learn to be able to say s with a straight face:
-No sorry, it pans to the right when we play too soft...

thanx

I had the "upgrade" installed in mine last month. It sounds a little bit better. The pops I was experiencing when muting/changing speakers are greatly improved (but not perfect) and the mute button actually mutes now...but I definitely still hear it left-heavy.

venue,

thanx for reply.
So can I ask if you paied for it?
It is very dissapointing to hear that the "upgrade" still does
not fix the stereo image on the main volume.

Hmmm, time to go shopping for a decent calibrated
monitor section I guess...

Re: TRY THIS - You won\'t believe it

Houser,
My PC was still under warranty so Digi replaced the analog board at no charge. My primary issue though was not the imaging problem - the mute button was bleeding program material when activated (not cool with clients in the CR) and there was an electrical snap when I muted or changed to midfields that had gotten progressively worse (perhaps a bad capacitor). So I guess I got "lucky"?
I still have an issue with electrical discharge on the dim circuit - enough to send a pop to my midfield amps even when nearfields are selected. Since the dim circuit is keyed from the onboard talkback it happens every time I talk to the talent during cutting. I had all of the ground paths in the CR tested and we isolated the PC as the source of the trouble.
None of the current problems are bad enough to go back to Digi (I recalibrated my monitor speakers to fix the imaging) but I certainly think they could have done better for the price point.

Venue,

Thanx for reply.
I don't see how your left-heavy problem could be fixed
with calibrating your speakers, as far as I understand
it changes at different levels.
See start of this thread.

It would be nice to know if there is a fix....
We are seriously looking into alternatives for the monitor side,

regards
Janne A.
