Delayed MIDI playback

----PREFACE----
Hello all,
I've been using something called Pro Tools SE which is pretty much a light version for years. It's been fun learning basics with this and for most of that time I was in high school and didn't have much time to record anyways. Now that I'm a college student i figured i would upgrade to the actual pro tools (or at least the student one) as it has many more features. I've been using an oxygen 25 midi keyboard with SE for years and have bad very little issues with it.
----PROBLEM----
When recording with the MIDI that i've been using for years, the sound being played back is delayed by roughly half a second which makes it impossible to keep time and make music. Even just playing the MIDI without a track recording has this delay (i can press a key and release it all the way before hearing the playback). I've tried enabling/disabling delay compensation and various other solutions that i've found and nothing has worked. This began from the very first time i tried pro tools 12 and has been occurring since.

Thank you for your time and any solutions/questions are welcomed.

I saw suggestions for that as well but when i went to change the buffer setting there was only one option (256 i believe but not exact as im away from my pc right now) and it didn't give me the option to change it.

Hmmm, this USUALLY means that you have Windows set(in Sound>Properties) to use your interface as its Default Playback Device. Windows needs to NOT use the same audio out as Pro Tools(which would free up Pro Tools to select a lower buffer for lower latency while recording). It may also help to know what you are using for an interface:o

Hmm that makes sense, ill check that out for sure. My interface is the M-audio Mobile Pre. Like my keyboard, it is rather dated but worked for pro tools SE for the last couple of years. I'm looking to get better equipment eventually but for no I don't have the money; hopefully that doesn't hinder my setup entirely. Thank you for the response

Hopefully, once you set Windows to not use the Mobile Pre, you can lower the buffer to 128, which should help. Beyond that, be careful what plugins you use while tracking. Many have hundreds or even thousands of samples of latency, and that will make it tough to record with all that latency. Some basic plugins like BF76 and the stock EQ have no latency.

I conducted the prescribed instructions and it did allow me to lower the buffer to 128 samples, however, there is still a sizeable delay between pressing the keys and hearing the sound.

I switched the playback and it allows me to go down to 128 samples but there is still a large delay. I have downloaded the stock pro tools, added an instrument, and pressed the keys, and nothing else at all, so now crazy plugin enabling or anything like that

Was this in the MobilePre Software Control Panel? If so, I read elsewhere that others have had success by using ASIO4ALL as their primary output device.
