Pre or Post fader Metering?

Any preferences between Pre or Post fader metering when mixing in ProTools? What do the "pros" do? Just wondering. I prefer pre-fader just so that I don't get all that red when I am trying stuff.

Re: Pre or Post fader Metering?

for me ...

I use pre-fade for tracking - for an accurate indication of what is coming in the inputs.

And I use post-fade for mixing. I like to know exactly how much i'm driving into any aux busses and the mix bus during the mix. I pay close attention to any internal clipping within my plugins since any clipping can be masked by simply dropping the fader. Also I always leave my master fader at unity always.

Cheers,
Marcus
