Re: SSD4 worth it?

I find all of these drum VI packages(Slate, SuperiorDrummer, AddictiveDrums, EZdrummer, BFD) are worth it(IOW, they all sound very good and very real). I suggest watching some videos(youtube or manufacturer's websites) to see HOW they work(especially HOW you audition and utilize their midi loops). I can't claim any is better than any other, anymore than you can say one drum kit is better than another. If you don't have any of the above, dive in(a sale is a good excuse:D).

I have superior drummer and just bought SSD4 and Chris Lord Alge drums. I had the pleasure of working with Chris in LA in 1988 at CanAm studios. Love the sound of SSD4, I call it my chocolate syrup drum rig. Nice and thick and gooey. My Superior Drummer is my tight set, and its charms include a live in the garage sound. Both are awesome.

I have SSD4 platinum and all the Expansions. IMO they are all great and depending on what sound your after there will be something to fit the bill :) when I got the David Bendeth pack I thought they didn't sound to good at all, but when I used them in a mix they sat really and sounded completely different. The Blackbird samples are great too, they are just raw so you can process them any way you want :)

I've just plonked down the dollar for SSD 4 platinum, and Blackbird drums. Hasn't arrived in my inbox yet though (4th July I guess?) but I am excited.

I'm slowly migrating over to PT12, and needed a new drum machine. Was getting a little tired of SD sounds so hopefully won't dissapoint. Anyone using SSD 4 in PT12.1 yet?

Using SSD4 and Blackbird here, the most authentic drum software I have found. I also own Superior Drummer, and EZ drummer. Soundwise, none of the Toontrack kits bring the realism of the Blackbird kit. They are really good but require a lot of tweaking.

SSD4 is worth it but I would suggesting also getting EZ drummer for building midi tracks, it's absolutely the best arranging tool for midi that is available. Then drag and drop those files into SSD4. Best of both worlds, midi and audio.
