Uninstall prior to crossgrade?

DUC search seems not to provide me with a definitive answer so ...

I have PT8(.03)LE with a 003 desk. I have purchased a crossgrade PT9. Will I have to / or should I uninstall PT8LE prior to (or during) the installing of PT9?

I have the required iLok key that I previously needed for the supplementary programs that came with my PT8LE although if memory serves me right I don't actually need the iLok present in the system for PT8LE to work (away from studio for a day or so but want to install PT9 at end of the week on my return).

What of the included software i.e. Guitar Rig LE

Thanks in advance

Re: Uninstall prior to crossgrade?

The general rule of thumb is to do a clean install whenever possible. It is the perfect time to clean out the files. Some folks go so far as to reinstall the OS from scratch (or at least a from a backup image). I was too impatient and did the updater on one of my systems and everything worked fine. So the absolute answer is "no" you don't have to uninstall PT8 to install PT9. The best answer however, is "yes" it is recommended to uninstall PT8 and do a full install of PT9.

I know it makes sense :-)

Just tempted to leave PT8LE on (and possibly working) in case of any problems say with updated 003 drivers.

sounds like it's time to acronis true image the system and start over - joy!

Absolutely use Acronis!! When it comes to the question of uninstalling, most installers will tell you when you try to run them. I would backup your drive and then run the 9 installer and see what it tells you(out of sheer morbid curiousity)
