Bruce,

Great video of Fab working with these very talented musicians. However, I couldn't download the recorded tracks. Never got an email.

I tested it when I posted this, and I did receive the email and downloaded the session files. I would suggest trying again, maybe with an alternate email address if you have one to try.

I really enjoyed watching these. The interaction between Fab and the artists was fun to watch. I really liked that Fab wasn't at all adverse to using plugins like Boom, Xpand or AIR Filter Gate. We're so often told we've got to have the big name plugs (ie Nexus2, Spire, etc). Yet here's a grammy nominee using the stock plugins! Loved that!

I think some folks tend to overlook the stock plugins found in Pro Tools- they are of high quality and can do probably 95% of what you need to do in audio production. It's not so much the tools, but the person's skill in wielding them that gets the needed results.

And yes, I'm enjoying the Creation2Mix videos also- I haven't tried any "competition mix" projects before, but since I'm upgrading to PT 11 (from 8 LE), I decided to try mixing "Words To Say". I've already put a version up on SoundCloud. Hmmm, I might remix it and put a new version up there- we have until January 11. A mix is never quite done until the deadline!

I recall some well known audio guru saying, "no mix is ever finished...it is just abandoned!" Or something close to that! :p

Just a minor note about that, I saw that some guys assume it's a mix contest. I thought so too, until I read the conditions..

You should, as we all do, try your best to get the best mix you can at this point, but in the end, the winners will be picked at random:

Winners will be chosen at random by software provided by Random.org from all entries submitted to the Soundcloud
Group #Creation2Mix
Anyway, a very nice learning experience indeed.

Yep. That's how I feel when I run out of time :)

I noticed that too, shtik, and I was going to post about it. AVID and Puremix are promoting this as a "Competition". I think that it's misleading, though. Competition implies value judgments being made as to which mixes are "better" than others. What they're doing here is more like a raffle or game of chance. Well, it says "drawing" right on the page where you can see all of the video episodes of the recording session. I agree with you, though- it's a nice learning experience- a practice mix to exercise one's skills and creativity.

Another thing I noticed: regarding the promotion of Pro Tools 11, they could have kept the "11" theme going, but they didn't! The "competition" ends on January 11. They should give out 11 prizes, not 10! And an 11-month Puremix subscription. D'OH! :-)

Re: From Creation to Final Mix - Tutorial & Session Files

Hi I just noticed in the rules that quote,"Closing date for entry will be January the 11th 2014" I'm a bit confused as the topic was started in December. I thought this was a recent event. Am I missing something or am I a year late for this?
