10.5.6 update. Is it safe to apply the system update from 10.5.5?
I'm running a newer MacbookPro. Have used PT for years and know that past automatic system maintenance update can cause big problems. Anyone running PTLE8 on 10.5.6?
Thanks |

I would definitely disable "Automatic System Updates" and when Digi qualifies the latest OS X update, I'd ALWAYS use System update to "Manually" update everything EXCEPT OS X updates.
For Updating OS X (Once Digi Qualified) it's recommended to always go to Apple's site, and download the "COMBO" update and run the installer. For example. When Digi DOES qualify 10.5.6 - go to apple's site, and type 10.5.6 Combo into their search engine. Having said that, I AM running 10.5.6 - only because I bought a brand new machine, and didn't feel like re-formatting. It SEEMS ok - but I won't update my other machines / rigs, till it's qualified. |

Why not just upgrade (or stay, if you already are) to 10.5.5, which we know is qualified and working; then upgrade to 10.5.6 when Digi qualifies it?

Correct, as of this weekend, Pro Tools LE 8.0 is now officially qualified with Mac OS X 10.5.6.
QuickTime 7.6 has also been qualified with Pro Tools LE 8.0. As stated on the Mac OS X Requirements with Pro Tools page, downloading the "Combo" Update linked there is the recommended method of updating your Mac OS to 10.5.6, not using software update. |
