If u use outboard or want|need multiple mixes, U need the ins & outs...

They can have many uses. One of them is to permanently connect out-board hardware and use it as an insert.

Another could be to create separate headphone mixes.

etc. etc.

Another use would be 4 stereo stems to an analog mixer for analog summing....
But I use 4 to feed "more me" to a 4 channel headphone system(that gets the main mix by default).

Home runs to your surround speakers and stereo mix FTW : )

And as was pointed out, outboard effects processing, even though most use plug-ins, plug-ins don't so everything, and there is still some really brilliant hardware effects processors out there...
