hard drive size matter?

I'm about to build an Allenstein and am wondering if hard drive size matters. I was gonna do a 120-160 system drive and use my current 40GB audio. I know I should probably switch them, but...

Is there any performance loss with a big system drive?

The bigger the better. More specifically, the more free space on the drive, the better. You will take a huge performance hit as the drive starts to fill and files are spread all over the place.

I would get fast and big.

To answer the other question, drives fill up with files way faster than system drives. While 40G is plenty for most system drives that hold programs, the drive does not get messed up so fast. Audio files accumulate as do samples. I would switch drives because 40G won't cut it. A drum sampler alone could use 10 gig in samples.

I would certainly switch them.. 40gig system and 120gig studio drive.

From a theoretically perspective the larger the drive the bigger the performance hit but it's negligible.

Peace,
Rob

The girls always tell me that the my hard drive size dosen't matter, that it's all about the write speed, but I think they're just trying to make me feel better.
