They re-mastered my #1 reference album...
I can't believe they went and re-mastered Roger Waters' "Amused to Death".
This was (is) the holy grail of reference material for me for several genres. Now it comes in a more squashed 2015 flavor! Ugh. To the credit of whoever did it, it sounds great, but seriously; is nothing sacred anymore? |
Re: They re-mastered my #1 reference album...
How else is Roger going to make any money other than re-hashing stuff....he's nothing without Pink Floyd IMHO.

He is part pink, the sound is there. Now maybe Dave G is more pink than roger but roger is still part pink and part of that sound.
I haven't heard that album but look forward to it.... Probably the guitars and then compare them to David's hah |
Re: They re-mastered my #1 reference album...
jeff beck plays the guitar on amused to death. it would be unfair to try and compare david gilmour to him.
also andy fairweather low. they changed some of the mixes on the remaster.. i was streaming it on apple music and had a few "i've never heard this bit" moments... |
Re: They re-mastered my #1 reference album...
Yeah, I preferred the more raw rhythm guitar arrangement on the original "Bravery..." Thought the added leads weren't necessary, but its probably just me being used to it the other way.
As far as Roger Waters being "nothing" without Pink Floyd, I consider every single one of Waters' solo albums to hold equal value to that of my favorite Floyd records (Animals, DSOTM, The Wall, Piper, etc.) Especially compared to David Gilmour's solo efforts, none of which are even on the radar for me... Anyways, regardless of personal preference on the tunes, the recordist in me views Waters' solo albums as true achievements in sonic splendor. I don't understand why anyone would want to re-master them? In the past decade, I've heard dozens of re-masters of some of my favorite albums, and they ALL do wrong to the originals. Call me an old fuddy duddy, but what is the point? Its called a volume knob, people. |

That's a no...

Re: They re-mastered my #1 reference album...
Exactly.
I've worked at multiple high-grossing record stores throughout the years. Labels would release re-mastered material all the time and it would sit on the shelf until we sent it back to the warehouse. Its like catering to less than 1% of the population that would care, and of that 1%, at least half of them would be pissed off at the very notion. So, I dunno...If Roger Waters needs more money at this point (which I doubt), why doesn't he just record a new rock album? If he doesn't wanna spend money on that, he can buy an mbox and a Mexican P-bass... |
