Save,save as , save copy in ?

Good morning. I thought I had a handle on the Save routine but in the current session I'm recording something strange is occurring! Let me explain. I was trying to compile several saved versions of the same song so that, if needed I could back up to a previous version and change, correct or add/delete tracks.
Yesterday when I was through recording I just clicked save, close session and then exit which is my normal routine. I reopened the session and three of the most recent tracks I had just recorded were gone! I know I saved each when I was satisfied with the take as well as when I closed out the session. This has never occurred before. What is the maximum number of tracks allowed in Pro tools 9? Is it possible that I have exceeded the maximum? (I.E.) Is Pro tools adding the tracks in each saved as version?

Hmmm. Not sure what happened. when you say "gone", do you mean the tracks are gone, or the audio on the tracks is missing(grey'd out)? If the entire tracks are gone, check the other versions, and check the last couple of Auto-Saved versions(assuming you have Auto-Save enabled). If the tracks are there, but the audio is missing, was there any other drive connected while you were recording? Did you actually record this missing audio, or did you import it into the session?(maybe PT is looking for a drive that is no longer connected):o

Save=you update whatever session was open
Save As=you create a new version of the session(great for keeping a version in several stages like "song tracking", "song vocal dubs", "song mix 1", "song mix 2", etc)
Save Copy In=saving a version of the session to a new place. If you remember to check the box to include audio files, this will be a complete copy of the session that you will save to another location, such as a backup hard drive, or to your desktop so you can zip it and upload for sending to someone(using a service like Dropbox or OneDrive).

Thanks albee. I'm embarrassed to admit that nothing was wrong and I was opening the wrong file! Sorry for your trouble and as always thanks. :o
