Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

Greetings! Upon launching ProTools is recieve the prompt to upgrade my firmware from V7.4.0.320 to V7.4.0.309. When I do so, the progress bar completes in 10 to 20 minutes, ProTools closes, and I'm back to my desktop. The cycle repeats every time I open ProTools. Any suggestions? Thanks,
Mike.

Re: Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

Your report doesn't seem to show which firewire card or controller you have. Are you sure you posted the entire report?

I'd say that's the most suspect - incompatible firewire controllers/cards are usually the problem.

Re: Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

I was trying to use the ASUS P5K Deluxe w/P35 chipset on-board firewire, but have since ordered the SIIG NN-440012-S8 firewire card. We'll see how that works out. Thanks.

Re: Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

I’m still unable to update my 003 Rack firmware. My PT is essentially useless with buffer underflow errors at ANY h/w buffer size. The progress bar gets to 100% and the computer returns to the desktop. I’m using the Digi-approved SIIG Firewire card on the Digi-approved ASUS P5K board w/P35 chipset. I’ve disabled “Load Sytem Services” and “Load Startup Items” in msconfig. My PT audio is on an secondary 7200 rpm 9ms seek time Western Digital HD, 2GB ram, DAE Prefs is deleted, Digidesign Databases folder is deleted, Volumes is deleted (per PT General Troubleshooting tips), Drive Indexing is disabled, DMA is enabled. I've already returned the 003 Rack for Sytem Clock and sample rate errors. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Have you disabled your network card and any other extraneous hardware? What are the other error numbers you're getting in Pro Tools (they may clue is in as to where the problem is originating)?

Which version of Pro Tools do you have installed? Were there any recent changes to your computer? Was Pro Tools working properly at some point?

What's the exact error message that you get?

Re: Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

albee1952, please read the post, I'm not selling anything. I have disabled my wireless and audio in Device Manager. When I let PT run I get error 6085 within 20 seconds. (My hope is that when I'm able to complete the firmware upgrade, that error may be solved.) I'm running LE 7.4. The computer is new, built from parts listed in the following Sandra report. While I ran Digi 001 successfully for many years, this upgrade to the 003 Rack hasn't yet been operable. I am using the same hard drives that I was using with the 001, which store files created originally on the 001. I've tried two different pci slots for the firewire card, and two Digi-supplied firewire cables. Perhaps reinstalling the PT software? Does anyone see any other possible hardware incompatabilities that I may have missed?
Thanks,
Mike.

Re: Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

Yea, firmware updated! Here's how:
1. Returned 003 Rack for a replacement- cleared up the Audio Clock and Sample Rate error.
2. Returned Gigabyte w/p45 chipset motherboard for an ASUS P5K Deluxe w/P35 chipset.
3. Installed SIIG Digi-approved Firewire card.
4. Disabled “Load Sytem Services” and “Load Startup Items” in msconfig, and every device possible.
5. Enabled DMA, disabled hard drive Indexing.
6. Loaded the latest PACE drivers.
7. Deleted Digidesign Databases folder, DAE Prefs folder, Volume folder.
8. Removed my PCI Linksys wireless card so the firewire card is the only PCI device.
I now get error -6085 after one or two minutes of playback, and my comuter is useless except for ProTools, but these are subjects for another time. Thanks for all the suggestions and insights!

Re: Digi-003 Rack LE 7.4 firmware update problem

Same problem regarding the firmware upgrade, Pro Tools would shut down right before or just as the progress bar was completed.
Tried the msconfig modification prior to upgrading and it worked very well.
Thanks.
