Digidesign Core Audio and QT7 and Mix hardware

FYI - not sure if this is common knowledge...

I decided to see if I could get QT7 and Digi Core Audio working with my Mix+ hardware. Success!

This is working for me:

Mix+ hardware
PT 6.4.1cs4
Mac OS 10.3.9
Quicktime 7
Digidesign Core Audio 6.9.2cs2 (the version that is specified by Digidesign to be used by Tiger/PT6.9 users)

To get the 6.9.2cs2 Core Audio driver installed, you have to install the latest PT6.9 cs updates on a TIger system (I have an 002R and an iBook running PTLE/ 10.4.3 / Tiger) - so I updated that rig with the 6.9.2 LE cs updates that install the latest Core Audio files, then I dragged these two files from the Tiger iBook over to my Mix rig, replacing the older 6.5.2 Core Audio files:

/Applications/Digidesign/Digi CoreAudio Manager (version 6.9.2)
/Library/Audio/Plugins/HAL/Digidesign CoreAudio.plugin (version 6.9.2cs2)

Before I did this, I tried the 6.5.2, 6.7, and 6.9 Core Audio drivers for Panther with QT7, and encountered various problems - stuttery Quicktime playback, distortion, etc. Then I noticed in Digi's read me notes that the 6.9.2 for Tiger core audio driver solved the Quicktime stuttery video bug, so that's what made me think to go ahead and try this.

So far everything is working fine - nice smooth QT7 video playback, iTunes 6.0.1 is good, Toast is working, etc.

This looks like the solution if you want to update your Mix+ rig to the latest Quicktime/iTunes/etc.

Digidesign, you should make a core audio driver installer that will allow people install the latest 6.9.2cs2 update on Panther! It's working well. Let people try it!
