Avid Link downloads [SOLVED]

I recently moved to 2020.3 (vanilla) from 12.8.3 (clean install) and honestly never noticed Avid Link in the notification area of Windows 10 till today. I have no idea whether I had it with 12.8.3.

On the left-hand side there's a red circle with a 1; when I expand that it lists what I have.

It shows HD Driver 2020.3, Eleven Effects Bundle 2018.8, First AIR Effects Bundle 2018.1, First Air Instruments Bundle 2018.10, and Expand II 2018.10 as installed. They each have a green check mark and "Current."

Below that it shows Avid Virtual Instruments 10.0 Installer, AIR Creative Collection Instruments 11.3.1, and AIR Creative Collection Effects 11.3.1 Installer. All of those have a "Download" button.

Are these updates to what I already have? Or did I somehow miss to download and install these with the rest? (I don't believe I'm missing anything.)

I clicked download on the first one and it's taking forever.

I always use the "My Products" page in my account on the Avid site. I kept a detailed spreadsheet and I definitely downloaded everything I own in mid-February and installed a couple of weeks ago.

Does Avid Link tell you when updates are available (is that what this is all about)?

Re: Avid Link downloads

AIR is tricky. I *think* if you purchased AIEP3 then you want to avoid installing the AIR stuff via Avid because it overwrites the full licenses with Avid's limited versions of some plugins like Structure. There's someone on here who seems to be an expert on AIR that would know better. unkJE? amagras?

Generally, people used to remove Avid's app manager and just downloaded updates on the website. Not sure if Avid Link is better received. I still use the website for most updates, unless it's something simple and obvious like one of the little stomp box plugins. I really only use Avid Link to submit feedback requests.

Avid Virtual Instruments 10.0 Installer, AIR Creative Collection Instruments 11.3.1, and AIR Creative Collection Effects 11.3.1 Installer are previous Installers which are still available in your Avid account under the heading: Pro Tools Legacy

Anyway, for Pro tools 2020.3, login to you Avid account and download from:
Pro Tools Plug-ins
First AIR Instruments Bundle 19.12 Installer (Mac) 1.05 GB
First AIR Instruments Bundle 18.10 Installer (Win) 1.25 GB
First AIR Effects Bundle 18.8.1 Installer (Win) 98.08 MB

Yes. I look at it to see what’s available, then delete it, along with other stuff I’ve noticed others call “Bloatware”.

Good point!

If you own the full version of Structure, move it from your Plug-Ins Folder to the Desktop before installing Pro Tools, as the bundled Structure Free does overwrite Structure (Full) - which results in a time-consuming exercise to re-install. I keep a copy of my User Presets, too.

Re: Avid Link downloads

Thanks, jscomposer and unkJE.

Twice the 1st download got stuck just shy of midnight (the download indicator is like a blue clock).

I canceled in the Avid Link and will just go to my account.

I really dislike these installation managers like Wave and Plugin Alliance use. I much prefer to get pointed to a .zip and just download it. With these managers I always find myself wondering whether anything is happening (especially with Waves).

Thanks again.

Yeah - I also uninstall Avid Link.
Have a question and I'll use Mac since that's what I have:
What's the difference between this (other than file size) between this "First AIR Instruments Bundle 19.12 Installer (Mac) 1.05 GB"
and this:
" First AIR Instruments 2018.3 Mac (DMG 1.1 GB"
Okay one says 19.12 and the other says 2018.3; do I need both or what? There's no explanation for this on the page.

Hi Jack
Hope you’re good as can be!

The Windows versions install Mini Grand + Boom + Structure Free, so I suspect the Mac versions do likewise.
You only need the latest version:
First AIR Instruments Bundle 19.12 Installer (Mac) 1.05 GB

I was confused about this as well and still wonder why these showed up in Avid Link at all. I have them loaded in my download manager and considered leaving my machine on last night to download them:

Avid_Virtual_Instruments_10_Installer_73466 2.53 GB
AIR_Creative_Collection_Virtual_Instruments_11.3.1 _Win 2.46 GB
AIR_Creative_Collection_Effects_11.3.1_Win 98.11 MB

I definitely have these already (the latest versions).

Why would Avid Link flag them? Is there anything in the old versions that's not in the new versions?

Thanks for the info - this has stumped me for quite a while.
Doing fairly well all things considered. Trying to stay safe. May you be safe to my friend.

Woops!

As well as Mini Grand + Boom + Structure Free, there's also Vacuum and DB-33 (also called AIR DB)
