Advice on which Mac to purchase...
 

I have been running pro-tools on my iMac G5 for about 4 years now and am looking to upgrade my hardware unit. Does anyone have any advice on which way to go?

PowerMac G5? or Dual Processor (intell)?? any advice on what some of you guys run using pro tools? M-Powered...

please let me know.

The Intel MacPros are the only way to go.
Future-ready, super strong, and a good value.

recommend... Macbook, iMac, Macbook Pro or Mac Pro
for all items maximize the RAM for what you get


Macbook, if your needs are light and just a hobby/home studio
warning: integrated graphics take away from RAM from your system.

iMac, for a little more power, less cost, but not very portable

Macbook Pro, portable and powerful

Mac Pro, the most costly, but most powerful... business studios
use/want this machine



i do not recommend the Mac Mini, although others have got it to
run Protools

Hands down a MacPro. It is an investment, but worth every penny. It also has 3 SATA bays for future storage, plus PCI slots for expansion as well (UAD card, extra Firewire/eSATA, etc). Plus it's ready to run dual monitors out of the box.
