External Power Supply HD Omni Thunderbolt Core

Where can I buy an external power supply for HD OMNI Thunderbolt HD?
I want to use HD Omni Thunderbolt with adaptor to USB-C Thunderbolt 3.
It is a bus-powered adaptor but I'd feel much safer using an external power source.

Mine didn't come with a power cable for some reason, where can I buy just the external power by itself for the HD OMNI TB Core unit?

They run OK off Thunderbolt 2 bus power and Thunderbolt 3 power delivery is relatively over engineered, I would just run it off the Thunderbolt 3 bus power.

Re: External Power Supply HD Omni Thunderbolt Core

Thanks for the info. I guess it would work on TB3 then.
Just in case though,
I reached out to a reseller and I was told that AVID HD OMNI uses these specs (correct me if I'm wrong).
12V 1.0A DC 5.5MM - 2.5MM

So I think this would work?

https://www.amazon.com/T-Power-12V-1...+5.5mm+-+2.5mm

I just tried it using this https://www.akitio.com/adapters/t3t
It doesn't work. No power to the HD OMNI TB.

What does not work? Is the Omni connected over Digilnk (it won't work without that)? What exact symptoms?

On what exact make/model computer? If Mac what model number or date code (Hopefully a recent MacBook Pro or similar. Not a MacPro (USB only not Thunderbolt 3) or PC (likely not Thunderbolt 3))

You have a Digilink (if Pro Tools HD >= 12.6) and Pro Tool HD license assets on an attached iLok 2 or 3?

Do you know the HD native box works on a Thunderbolt 2 computer?

Why are you not using a Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter?

HD native thunderbolt box works for sure on a thunderbolt 2 system.

Using USB-C Thunderbolt 3 it doesn't work. I'm not sure why.
It might be a problem with the TB3-TB2 T3T adapter.

Are you saying that TB3 and USB-C though they are exactly the same size aren't the same?
I talked to an Apple representative who told me that they were in fact the same.

For the record it's windows machine with USB-C 3.0.

I'll try it with the apple one and see if that works.

Re: External Power Supply HD Omni Thunderbolt Core

It is what exact Windows PC? Motherboard etc.

USB-C is *not* Thunderbolt. It's a physical connector standard that can carry Thunderbolt 3, USB and various video standards. On most PC's it will only be carrying USB 3/3.1 Gen 1 or USB 3.1 Gen 2, it might even only be USB 2 (esp. for portable/mobile devices). You need to know that the motherboard or a special plug in PCIe card (specific to that motherboard) is providing Thunderbolt 3 though that connector.

So again what exact PC/motherboard or plug in thunderbolt card do you have?

Uh oh, I have a bad feeling... on a PC your best bet may be picking up a used HD Native PCIe card, or if you just need a Omni class interface just using an ASIO interface.

Can I just check something?

The OMNI does not receive power except through an IEC (kettle) lead input.
You have that connected right?
