Guitar fx on your iPhone/iTouch/iPad from IK!

Just got an email from them today. Looks pretty interesting. I like the look of the GUI. Wonder if it sounds as cool as it looks. ;)

Probably the reason the StealthBoard is delayed.

PRS had something like this for a while. More a "jam app" than a "modeller app", though.

Seems like a waste of money, battery life for a phone/ipod, and probably won't sound that great in comparison to something like amplitube 3 or Eleven LE (which you can get for a similar price off ebay, including the ilok transfer fee). Cool concept I guess but in all honesty what would be the use?? The only reason I use amp modelers is for recording or live work which this probably won't cut it. The only use would be it's very mobile but won't be based on the fact the battery would last a total of an hour at best... I would have expected IK to be using their time for more productive R&D.

But you see where this is going with today's handsets having more and more features of full computers. In a few years you will be carying "Eleven Rack" in your pocket, with 6h battery life and you will be streaming your audio to FOH without wires.

Meh I'm not a fan of Eleven Rack first of all (I'd rather have a 003 for that kind of money, just based on the number of inputs and Firewire). Second of all the new hardware they will have by then will be greater than what they make for hand held devices as it always has been... So therefor it will probably be most feeseable to make music on a full rig as you will have more space... Have you ever tried to type on a phone it's annoying just based on the amount of finger space. It's nowhere close to typing on a keyboard. Basically I think the idea of making music on a phone is moronic and a pipe dream at best. Personal opinion of course.

looks great fun... I used to enjoy my pandora alot - didnt sound like some $5000 rig but it fit in my case and sounded sh*t loads better that a solid body unplugged!!
I can definately see the value.. be interesting to see how good it sounds.

That quote will go down in history methinks, along with these... ;)

Re: Guitar fx on your iPhone/iTouch/iPad from IK!

Certainly a great idea!

Today's portable practice rig in your pocket... tomorrow's Eleven Rack built right into your guitar! Has a nice little flip out monitor on the headstock. Don't forget,t his was my idea! HAHA!

Come on guys, have some vision. You would kill Variax! Seriously.Make some kind of deal with Taylor or something like that. If you had an easy way to switch sounds you might not even need much of a foot controller. Why not?

On the other hand, still it would probably become outdated, thus the good reason to separate the ever changing tech end of things from guitars and amps. For example, modelling amps are a very poor investment. They are here today, gone tomorrow, but my guess is someday the technology will be at the point where the hardware will have enough power for the longer term expansion/upgrades.

Just thinking out load! :-)

StealthBoard was planned for Q2 2010 and we have not announced a delay.

Sorry, I heard April based on what Dan from IK said at about 3:15 in this video.

I do see that your website says 2nd Qtr for the StealthBoard.

Didn't mean to offend anyone, just anxious for a review.

Not at all offended, thanks for pointing that out. I wish it was April myself too :)

Re: Guitar fx on your iPhone/iTouch/iPad from IK!

That is odd. Marco Aicardi from IK Multimedia mailed me (on 30 april) that it will be released the 3rd quater (in Europe).

More over last Saturday IK multimedia stated on their facebook: "We expected to be able to ship June but it looks like it will be more end of July or Beginning August...there is also a nice surprise regarding AmpliTube that goes with the StealthBoard release so stay tuned..." I found the confirmation of the 3rd quater already a BIG surprise, #%&&! !

Please put this kind of info on the Stealthboard website and change the delivery from soon in to an actual month.

What is the reason for the delay???

Musicians First????????? Then send me the Manual of the Stealthboard in pdf so I can start buying the right adapters and connections.

Sorry about that, I should know better than to think hardware and dates will always match up. I will keep you posted but it will not be out during June but could well be on target for summer. We even have had scares with iRig, that just comes with the territory when producing hardware products.

With regard to iRig, you'll get to play with the app tomorrow :) http://www.amplitube.com/irig

The problem with that is too often by the time it finally gets to you you've lost interest entirely.

Re: Guitar fx on your iPhone/iTouch/iPad from IK!

So Peter,

Since you're here can you answer a question on the Stealthboard? Is the expression pedal midi-only, analog, or both?

If it's midi-only, is it true what some others say in that you can hear the 'steps', ie 0-127 value steps I suppose? I'm guessing if you use it as a wah, and use it at normal speed, ie not REAL slow, you won't notice a stepping effect with midi, will you? I know I never could hear the steps on a keyboard controller wheel on any of the synth keyboards I've ever played with, although I've never thought to listen for it. Other opinions besides Peter's?

Thanks and sorry that GC is now saying 8/6 before they receive them.

Re: Guitar fx on your iPhone/iTouch/iPad from IK!

Peter,

Thanks for your (bit late) answer. Seeing the questions maybe it is not such a bad idea to put the manual of the Stealthboard on the internet. In this way people can exactly check what the specs are. And can decide which pedalboard to choose or wait for the Stealthboard. Myself already paid for one (hard cash and now waiting:confused:) so reading the manual would hopefully convinced me I have made the right choise. I am sure the manual is finished already. Of course you can PM me the manual as well. (I already paid, you know)

It is nice to play with the Irig gadget if I can plug my guitar in the Iphone............. (IRIG end of july???? at least in Europe)

In my experience with MIDI capable guitar effects processors, (especially the 11R) there is no "stepping" at least that is audible. I use a MIDI expression pedal in my controller to control my wah, and it's just as responsive as any wah should be. (given that actual sweep is different from wah to wah)

I actually find that the exp pedals are very sensitive to movement. For instance, take the 11R's multi-fx function, it's an effect that is technically always on, (no on/off control) and engages when the set expression pedal is moved. Say i change preset while my pedal is at FULL heel down, which is "value 0". Even if i slightly put pressure on it, the pedal sends the information, and multi-fx starts doing it's thing. I imagine that's the space between value 0 and value 1 according to the expression pedal.

Movement with the exp pedal is not at all "jumpy" or "steppy", i don't think you can even really tell the difference between value 0 and value 1 in terms of wah, or if it's even humanly possible to consistently move just 1 value at a time.

Also, i wouldn't be surprised if an "exp pedal in" was just something that converts information into MIDI to control effects anyway, whether you do it with an expression pedal, or modded volume pedal. And since the IK Stealthboard is a MIDI controller, all it's sending is MIDI info right? "analog" pedal or otherwise.

Perhaps. Or, perhaps he needed a solution and couldn't wait months to get his preference.

Well that's not interest, but necessity.

Again, it all comes down to this instant gratification phase we have come into in modern society. There are so many options for everything, yet as soon as something new is even mentioned we "MUST HAVE IT NOW!"

I would much rather wait for something to be done right, than have something now that isn't.

Hey if things always worked out this way we'd still be waiting on the Eleven Rack, lol.

It is official! For the stealthboard we all have to wait for september! For all the people who like to wait this is great news! For all the others this is a big disappointment

And no answers from IK mutimedia here.

I call it the "VaporBoard" cause it's vaporware.
