Mbox 2 Standalone Drivers for Windows Vista

I have been looking on the internet for days and cannot get a straightforward answer. Here's the deal:

I am running
  • Windows Vista SP1
  • Pro Tools 8 cs 1
  • Mbox 2
I would like to use my mbox 2 interface for playback of all windows sounds, or in better terms, use the mbox as a default playback device. I understand that the WaveDriver and ASIO Driver only work for XP... Is there anything for Vista ??

Also the versions for the Wave / ASIO Driver's are version 7.4 - will that cause problems with my 8.0 software ?

Nothing. Zilch. Zippo.NADA. Some guys run a cable from their on-board sound card to their monitor in's on the 002/003's but I don't think you have that option on an Mbox.

No Wave driver has been released for Vista... yet.
There is an ASIO driver and it is installed along with Pro Tools.

The stand alone drivers you were looking at are just that... "stand alone". Meaning only to be used if you aren't installing any version of Pro Tools. Using any of those drivers can harm your PT installation.

You should find the Digidesign ASIO driver available in the Properties of any ASIO compatible application (Sonar, Cubase, etc.).
You won't see it mentioned as a Vista audio device... that's what the Wave driver is for...

It's very likely a driver will be released. Digidesign has commented that a rewrite is in the works.

That sounds completely accurate. The driver is not listed in the windows sound properties but i can run FL studio through the mbox fine with the ASIO driver.

was that what the mbox icon in control panel for windows xp was ?

I am dying for the wave driver !!! An ETA would be nice, DIGI :)
