When you output a stereo aux track to a mono output?

I want to send the stereo mix to a mono output (because I am limited on physical analog outputs). I am using the Left analog Out on my M3000 for the analog Out (with the M3000 bypassed).

If I:
1. Create a stereo Aux Input track
2. Select the stereo mix bus as input
3. Select the M3000 L In as output,

How are the stereo signals processed in the Aux track? Are they mixed down to the mono out signal, or will I only get the Left In as the output?

When I read the manual, it appears to me that I am unable to select a mono output for a stereo Aux Input track. However, when I tried it, I was able to select the mono out.

I should know this, but I've just never had a need to do this before.

Thanks,
Mike

Choose stereo output for the AUX.

PAN the right channel of the AUX to the left.

Bingo. MONO output on one channel (left).

If both channels have hot levels, be careful. The summation of the two may result in overload/distortion.

putney2,
When you select a mono out from a stereo Aux track, how are the stereo signals processed in the Aux track? Are they mixed down to the mono out signal, or do you only get the Left In as the output?

Thanks,
Mike

Re: When you output a stereo aux track to a mono output?

I use a stereo bus> to a stereo aux> with a mono out, for headphone bussing.
Selecting a mono output on the stereo aux causes the panner to disappear.
You may see a 2.5db boost in the signal.
