I had one for about 6 months. It's a beautiful, fast and smooth Mac - runs PT and Logic flawlessly. But it's easily the loudest computer I've ever had (and that's a lot of Macs & PCs). It wouldn't really be a problem if it weren't for the fact that it's right in your face.

Louder than your dual 1.25?!? I doubt that--I have one and those are F-16s ready for take off!
My experience with the iMac has been good w/a 002r and Mbox.

Man, you should really use the search function with terms like 'Imac' 'G5' and 'davec' - if you had, you'd have seen my earlier post of some test results.
I'm not re-posting this link again!!!

I have a boat load of iMac G5s now as well as iMac G4s still. There is some great info being posted on the Apple forum and I resolved my fan noise issues on 4 loud iMac G5s by replacing the midplane. They are very quiet now as advertised, but before that they were intolerable. Apple is trying to tell people that the fan noise is normal to cover up for poor quality control on the first releases. I'd wait until this summer for things to clear up before jumping on a new one. If you do end up with a loud one, then be persistent with tech support and don't settle for any BS. I have better luck working with them online and getting a product specialist right away.
