Protools LE and the fight of its life?

I just watched Propellerheads new program called RECORD!
All I can say is if it has PDC, and functions well...........

I'll be the first to admit I love Protools.... but the some of the simple things that they are lacking is killing them

OK, unless they change this.....NO THIRD PARTY PLUGINS..... it's gonna fail before they even launch it! (Everbody supports VST in someway)

For those who write music in a DAW, it's a serious contender. For those that use Reason for almost everything, for a $149 upgrade its a no brainer.

Did you see the part where they said all audio files, project and MIDI are stored in one file?

Oh yeah, no VSTs though.

Why would no VSTs be a good thing?

stability!
fewer bugs!
simplicity!

The DAW is designed to be very simple to use for getting tracks recorded FAST.

There's probably no hardware inserts either.

The only 3rd party plugins at this point are from Line 6. If you have a Line 6 product you get the Pod and Bass Pod in Record.

If you have Reason 4 you can use all the reason plugs in Record.

Wow, Record looks impressive !!! This is coming from the company that coded Reason 1.0 corectly from the get-go. They'll need to add third party plugs, though.

We'll have to see. The line 6 plugins are fine, but with no VI support....I don't know. It could work without VST support, but without any 3rd party VIs, that's pretty limiting.

However, a 64-bit mix buss should sound very, very good.

Competitor for garageband. Not a pro DAW.

Limiting to no vst's to me is like saying no third party refills in reason!

I do think its a bit premature to declare this a full fledged competitor to pro tools le. Propellerhead does finally realize that the inability to record is a very significant limitation in reason... I guess this record product somehow brings in the reason instruments, but the workflow was not clear from the promotional materials I read on their website.

Personally, with version 8, I'm pretty happy with pt. Harder to learn, but lots more room to grow. I do think the air vi's are too expensive, though.
