Question about trashing prefs

I know I really SHOULD know this, but what do you guys do about trashing preferences?
How do you keep track of what to restore and reset?

I know I can use the PT Prefs application to save them, but am I not just potentially saving some prefs that are problematic if I do that before trashing?

Yes, potentially. Generally I'd advise backing them up when you appear to have a smoothly running system. That can be difficult to judge though! If you've had a few days without crashes / plugins doing weird things etc then it's probably ok.

I have weird things going on with 2019.5 that wasn't there with 2018.12.
Sometimes pressing space bar to play / stop does nothing. Until I replace the cursor/playhead. Created a ticket with Avid and they told me to thrash prefs (did it their way) but It didn't help.

I also get greyed out menus all over PT after closing a session that uses Sonarworks plugin. Weird. Weirder. Pro Tools.
