Protools crashed while recording live show
Hi there
I am using protools for recording for a long time, and I want to say that every time I am hopping that every thing will go well and I won't have any problems. for most of the rezones it is not in my hands. sometimes its just stop for buffer size even if the buffer its on his limit and I continue recording and it work fine and I didn't change a thing. But 3 days ago I record and after 4 min the meters frizzed and I couldn't escape the program until I force quit the program and when I finally restart there program I record only the last 2 songs. the band was really disappointing from that and so as I. it ruins my name and I know that I did the same as always but sometimes it work fine and sometime something happen. I have a strong computer. MacBook Pro 15' touchscreen 16gb memory. os Mojave 10.14.2 and I record on an ssd external hard drive. I need a solution. this is my job and if I am not 100% sure that everything will work fine so what else can I do? |

Re: Protools crashed while recording live show
did your puter throw an error prompt when it crashed?
|
Re: Protools crashed while recording live show
no
just told me to send a message to protools |
Re: Protools crashed while recording live show
For simply capturing, I would go with something much more lightweight.

Re: Protools crashed while recording live show
If this is your job, I don't know of a single professional live mix/record engineer who isn't running a second/backup recorder. That's just standard procedure for live gigs.
Outside of this, you are running a laptop and laptops have their own issues. Turn off wifi on it. Record to the internal drive not an external drive. Don't run an unqualified operating system. |
Re: Protools crashed while recording live show
I also recommend the Waves program for live tracking as Pro Tools is just too finicky. One thing that might help; set the playback buffer as high as possible(if it was at 64, that might have hurt you and is totally unneeded for live tracking). Also, if other tracking dates went fine, did this date include any plugins that were not used on previous dates? What drive were you recording to?(if its a 5400 RPM laptop drive, that could be a show-stopper).

Re: Protools crashed while recording live show
for all the above
I am using a strong laptop and with no plugins and no wifi (I know all the stuff that can interrupt the recording). when I use the waves tracks live nothing happen and everything works fine. But this is avid forum and I have problem with protools. I prefer recording on protools because then I mix my recording on protools which is more comfortable. as I said. there is no 100% on a record in protools. isn't everybody agree on that?? |
