native system?
Sorry for being a noob, but what is a native system in regards to pro tools? I see the phrase all over the place and i just want to understand.
thanks the nassa project:-) |
Re: native system?
Pro Tools use to only run on special card that fit into a tower.
Around 1999 a version called Power Mix was released that did the audio processing on the computers CPU instead of special DSP chips. this was the first "native" system but it was short lived. It was replaced by what is now known as LE (Limited Edition). So native refers to using the computers CPU to do the processing of the audio data instead of specialized DSP chips on cards. Now this HD Native that some people think is coming, I have no clue. |
Re: native system?
A native system relies solely on the CPU's processing power vs. having help from a DSP chip.

Re: native system?
Interesting that I was just wondering the same thing, and here it was just recently asked and answered.
Actually, it's the forum title that made it confusing - I mean, there's really no such thing as a Pro Tools LE & M-Powered non-native system, is there? |

However as of yet, this version is not known to exist. There has been some possible clues to it existing, but it may be people just wanting to see the clues more than they being there. |
