Recording timing / late recording issue resolved

In response this thread

http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=341242

about recording timing errors, I ran the test described in post #31 of that thread and experienced a consistent delay of the recorded material (my post #44 and some after that one).

Not wanting to hijack that thread further, I am posting the resolution to my issue here in hopes that it may help someone else.

It turns out that my issue was unrelated to the issue being discussed in that thread and was due to pilot error on my part: if users of an HD Omni are using one of the designated Monitor outputs to perform a loopback test, the recorded material will not be delayed compensated. This is mentioned in the HD Omni Guide on p. 29 in italics: "With HD OMNI, Delay Compensation isnot supported on assigned Monitor outputs. Delay Compensation is only supported on physical outputs not assigned to a Monitor path".

The solution is to not use a monitor path when performing such a test or, if Outputs 1-2 are assigned to monitor, use Outputs 7-8 mirrored to the TRS jacks instead for purposes of testing. Once I acknowledged this, my tests were dead-on sample accurate.

Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and help.

Forgotten lesson (re-) learned on my part: read the manual first! ;)
