How to keep timeline selection using "back and play"
Hello,
I almost find the perfect way for me to work in theatrical dub mixing. but: I want to be able to keep a timeline selection while I use "back and play" control (transport). "back" and "forward" does it, "back and play" not ! (right rick on backward, or s5 and Icon control button makes the selection disappear also) Really annoying ! I use "dynamic playback" which is great for having "Play Start Marker " moving inside the timeline selection, except with "back&play"... timeline selection lost... Link timeline to edit selection is unchecked (which is what I want for quick edit without lose my timeline selection). Why can't I use "back&play" without loosing my timeline selection ??? Thanks for telling me ! Have a good day ! Laori |

Hi, just tried it, and if I unlink timeline and edit selection then it works great with back and play, timeline selection is preserved.

Quote:
Case : linked edit/timeline , select clip , unlink edit/timeline , Start-clicking (Ctrl-clicking Mac) Rewind will make a timline-insertion and an edit selection and a back+play. With automation, a possible write-to-all at this time will do the write-to-whole-session-thing. In order to avoid this, one must first actively command "play edit selection" and then write-to-all. Or, stop playback and command "Edit Selection To Timeline Selection" (O) , playback, write-to-all. |

Hello there,
I'm back with... the same question... and some Gifs. So, assuming I want to be able to write some automation in "to end" mode but only in a selected area (timeline selection). Everything works fine with dynamic transport which allows me to have both edit selection and boundaries to my automation untill I press "back and play", which is so convenient... the 3 first Gifs And the problem occurs with "back and play": 4th Gif Any ideas ? Thanks ! Edit: animated gifs should coming soon... newbie mistake |

Re: How to keep timeline selection using "back and play"
You are absolutely right. There's seems to be no way to keep the selection with back+play. I don't know if this is intentional, but guess it's not.

Re: How to keep timeline selection using "back and play"
Only thing I can think of is to use Cmd+Opt+Left arrow in combination with suitable pre- and post-roll values to keep the selection.
