clip gain 12.8.3/2018.1

Can anyone confirm the behavior I'm seeing?

Steps to repeat:

1. Create 1 track with 1 region
2. clip gain up and down a few times with control-shift-up/down observe the speed
3. Create 100 blank audio tracks
4. repeat clip gain and observe speed. I'm getting much slower clip gain with higher track count?

Noticed starting in 12.8.3, but persists in 2018.1
OSX 10.11.6
Mac Mini quad i7 ssd 16gig ram

I mean I have always seen a slow down when clip gain multiple clips/tracks etc. in multiple PT versions and dozens of systems over the years.

ie. clip gaining down a bunch of stereo music tracks across an entire hour long show sequence is slow.

yeah, but this is different... literally 1 clip... the only clip in the session... increase track count... and it slows down... doesn't seem like the two things should affect each other...

Oh I see. I have not seen that behavior on my system. Top spec Mac Pro Trash can os 10.12.6

Is it a graphical issue?

Zero difference on my system doing that test. Extremely fast either way. Sounds like the macMini graphics card can't keep up.

Also, macOS 10.11.6 isn't supported with 2018.1 and shouldn't have been under 12.8.3; macOS 10.12 and 10.13 only. This was due to graphics issues. Sounds like you've found one of the issues.

my system:
Pro Tools HD 2018.1, HDX3, MTRX, HD Omni
Mac Pro 5,1 -3.06 GHz 12 core - macOS 10.12.6
64GB RAM, 2TB SSD x 4, GTX 680 4GB

Oh shoot... didn't see that 10.11 it wasn't supported...
(edit: it actually is supported according to the 2018.1 readme)

been holding off 'cause of a bug in kensington trackballworks that starts in 10.12...

Also my mac mini's are starting to show their age...

Thanks!

Old thread, but... I had chalked it up to old computer...

Now I have a "new" computer (Trash Can, piles of ram and cores etc)

OSX 10.12.6
PT 2018.7

STILL having this issue.

Anyone else see this? Am I going crazy?

There is a distinct and immediate difference in clip gain speed in large sessions (using keyboard shortcut or scroll ring) Pre/Post version 12.8.3

Hi,

I just took some time to try this issue you are seeing but I can't reproduce it.

I even try with beta Mojave volume.
I'm on a MacBook Pro early 2014 i7 / 16gb ram

Thanks, Marco for taking the time... I really appreciate it.

I'm going to have to see what's going on... this is happening across all 20 systems I manage, but they have a lot of the same components...

Driving me crazy!

Also not seeing that reproducible here, on a decked out MacPro 12 core.
