HDX Upgrade - motherboard + UAD questions

Hi gang,

I'm upgrading my old TDM HD1 rig to an HDX 64 bit.

I have:
Gigabyte X79-UD3 8 Gb DDR3
UAD PCIe
Xeon E5 8 core 1620 3.60
Avid approved nVidia GPU
Windows 7 64
Avid Mic Pre, RME, Focusrite Mic Pres
HD I/O x 2
Command 8

Will this existing MB handle the HDX? I'm looking at a Gigabyte X99 UD4
and DDR4 ram if it won't. I will keep the Xeon and GPU. Suggestions?

Will I be forced to change to Win 10? My existing license will get me to PT 11 HD.

Oh, and I will absolutely add more RAM if the X79 card will be kept.

Thanks!!

Not enough RAM.
Min 16Gb but really needs to be 24GB or higher. I/O page gets wonky with less RAM (I don't know why but it was true with 11)

With PT 11 HD your looking at WIN7 (Best Bet)

Your card should have no problem running in the X79 board....it should be gravy.

I would personally upgrade my CPU....but that's just me.

I ran that board (UD5 actually) with a 8 Core E5-2687W chip for quite awhile...and it's a nice chip but I see much more power in the 6th gen i7's.

I upgraded my Hard Drive also to a M.2 drive and it's a world of difference.
i think most people would be happy with the power of a i7-6850....

just my $0.02.

I use that board with HDX (X79-UD3.) But as said, you will need more RAM.

Yep, SSD over HDD for noticeable gains for sure!

Yes and M.2 drives are even faster than normal SSD's. A win/win/win
