lap top and hd???
What do I have to do to utilize pro tools hd with an avid interface into my lap top to reduce my cpu usage when running pro tools with lots of plugins.

Re: lap top and hd???
Find a laptop with thunderbolt and stuff an HDX card in it and add some Digilink-compatible interface. Or, if you are mixing but not tracking, UA makes some powered external boxes(see their site for connections). Personally, if your laptop is running out of power, a better laptop is probably the wisest(and cheapest) first move. And, do you REALLY need a laptop(you can get a lot more horsepower for less money with a desktop)?:o

Re: lap top and hd???
I believe my lap top is plenty powerful enough and I don't know of a desk top that is really any more powerful. Anyway I track as well as mix on my lap top , but I am afraid as , some songs require more tracks, and therefore plugins, I may run out of cpu power. I have no issues so far but I'm just looking to the future. Thanks for the advice and I will check out the ua stuff.

I find it hard to believe that you can't find a desktop machine more powerful than your laptop.
What are the specs of your laptop? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That is about the most "hoss" laptop I've seen:o

Re: lap top and hd???
Well spec'd laptop but nowhere near as powerful as some of the desktop machines out there.
Regardless, give us a typical session layout and we can advise if you'll have enough power. I'm willing to bet you won't have any issues. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: lap top and hd???
At my first demo of HD/Native, it was version 8.5 and was run on a MBP i7 quad with 16GB of RAM. The demo session was 150 tracks(5.1 movie soundtrack) with a video window and running at a 128 buffer(HDN card was in an external chassis connected to a card slot). Having said that, I also think that each newer version, while giving us more features, also chews up a lot more horsepower.:o
