Will My Laptop Work With ProTools 8 LE or 9?

I am a total noob to ProTools and to the forums so I am sorry if this has been answered previously.

Currently I am running an ASUS K50IJ Series laptop:

Intel Core 2 Duo
CPU: T6600
4GB Memory
WIN7 Premium
2 250gig HDD

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've worked a little with this program and I really am starting to love it

We really need a full Sandra report here, unless someone else is using the same laptop with success. Info here:
Help us Help You - READ THIS Before Posting!

It really boils down to the chipset, and firewire(if you need firewire). With dual hard drives and a USB interface, then firewire would not be an issue. But the chipset is really important for compatibility(non-intel chipset with an intel CPU is usually a show-stopper). Also, a separate graphics card can make a big difference(more so on older machines, not so important on the newer stuff).

Re: Will My Laptop Work With ProTools 8 LE or 9?

if it is this PC
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/def...(ASUS+K50IJ+H1)

Then it looks to NOT be supported, since it has integrated graphics, and a 5400 RPM drive.

Will it work? Probably. But not supported.

You should upgrade the HDD to a 7200 RPM drive, then if that laptop has another internal HDD slot, put another 7200 RPM drive in there. Or if you go for PT9 and dont have 2 internal slots, you could use an external USB 2.0 drive. PT8 does not support USB drives.

So in conclusion... "will it work", and "is it supported" are to different questions.

Pardon my ignorance, what is the difference between it working and it being supported.

Also, I will get a Sandra report soon.

Supported means that Avid has tested and confirmed success. With so many laptops on the market, it would take years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to test every one. Just because its not supported, does not mean that it won't work. It just means you are on your own.

With all that said, integrated graphics HAVE been tested and are known NOT to work with Pro Tools (any version).

Unfortunately, you are out of luck here. With a laptop, there's no way around it except to purchase a different compatible computer.

Once you DO get a compatible computer, you will need to pay attention to some of the other requirements:

Pro Tools requires a separate physical disk for audio sessions, and that disk must meet certain requirements as well. You can read them for yourself HERE.

This will need to be disabled while you are using Pro Tools.

I have an Acer that's not supported but it works great. Not for big projects, but it rocks anyway. I had bought an external HD Western Digital, USB and Fireware, 7200 rpm. Maybe youy can test your own.

ASUS G73 JW laptop works Win 7 64 bit

Works but very slow to start Pt9 and currently clicks and pops from M-Audi Fast Track Ultra under investigation.

I can confirm the Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1 did not work with PT9

Re: Will My Laptop Work With ProTools 8 LE or 9?

cdxpat -

Did you ever get the issues sorted out with your Asus G73Jw? I am looking to buy one to use with Pro Tools 9 and an mbox 3. Your post is the only reference I can find to anyone trying pt9 with the G73Jw. The G73Jw seems to have great reviews in general and looks like a powerful beast but your post doesn't make it look too promising with pt9.

Thanks,
Moldenke
