wireless keyboard with pro-tools on mac

I've been using an editors keys USB mac keyboard for a while with my pro-tools setup, it's been good, but I'm considering moving to a wireless keyboard (I use a wireless mouse).

the documention from when I started using pro-tools around 7.3-8 always said disable bluetooth on the host, I've ignored that for a long time to use my wireless magic mouse, as I'm doing this I thought about the keyboard.

Is a wired mouse/keyboard and disabling bluetooth still recommended in pro-tools 2019 ? feels a little dated on modern hardware.

Depends on your computer.

I had nothing but problems with BT keyboard. Had to go back to wired.

I even bought an ext. BT dongle and ran an ext. cable so it was away from the computer. Worked for a while, then went flaky again.

I’m running a Mac Mini in the studio and they are notoriously bad for this. Inefficient shielding and USB3 peripherals causing interference.

Don't use wireless stuff in the studio if you don't need to. It's always less reliable. And please don't forget batteries are killing the planet too.

With that in mind, don't be afraid to run long USB extendo cables. I ran a mini keyboard with built-in track pad thru 50' of USB cable with zero issues(made it handy to control a session from behind the drums or in one of my iso-booths):o

Good ol' eBay:o They have a small lump near the computer end that amplifies to compensate. It started as an experiment running an Akai trigger pad and that worked so perfectly, I bought another(and they were pretty cheap) and ran it thru some mesh cable wrap along side of a 50' HDMI cable. With an active HDMI splitter(around $39), I have a rolling cart with keyboard/track pad and a 24" 1920x1080 monitor that mirrors on of my screens:D
