Digi 003 rack - very high input gain with Beyer Opus 88 mic
I recently picked up a Beyer Opus 88 for micing my snare (replacing an SM57). I like everything about the 88 - but the input gain is way too high on the channel input. It's peaking even when I have the gain knob on my 003r turned down almost all the way. Since the mic clamps directly to the snare rim & has a fixed length gooseneck, I can't move it very far from the snare (not that I'd want, sound-wise).
This may be a very simple question, but how do I prevent this from happening?... I notice some preamps have gain reduction/pad buttons to reduce input gain... I don't think the 003r has this feature? Thanks |

In your case, getting an inline pad that connects to the mic cable is your best bet. Shure makes excellent ones with either fixed or variable pad values.
