Satellite Link imperatively with a Sync HD ?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to have your opinion about the Satellite Link configuration recommanded by Avid. Here is what is written in the Reference Guide :

Satellite System Requirements
The following is required for each Pro Tools HD
system on the network:
• Avid-qualified computer
• Pro Tools | HD Software
• HDX or HD Native hardware
• Pro Tools | SYNC HD
• Ethernet connection to a Local Area Network
(LAN)

All Pro Tools systems in a Satellite Link network must be resolved to a common video reference, or “house sync,” using SYNC HD.

I'm using 3 Pro tools HD 12.8.3 with an MTRX for each slave and a HD MADI with a Sync HD for the Master. An MC 3.2 is generating word clock and blackburst.

If the Pro tools Master is locked on a Video ref (with the Sync HD) and the Slaves are locked on the Word clock, both signals coming from the same generator (MC 3.2) is it still enough acurate or do I need to really lock each Pro tools to a blackburst ?

You need both.
Wordclock has nothing to do with picture sync and Blackburst has everything to do with picture sync. Blackburst distributors are cheap... just take your generator and distribute to the rest.

This is critical only if you want to be picture perfect. If not, the wordclock will keep digital samples in sync (keeping away digital clicks/pops/snats) but has no bearing on frame edges staying together.
