****A new version of TRASHER for PT 11/10.3.6 ****
11-11-2014
TRASHER 11
11.0.8

Extract onto and run the installer from the Desktop ONLY.

Installs the same as 10.5

After running the installer .exe
a menu will appear to allow a new install or install over TRASHER 10-10.5

IF you choose to install over 10-10.5 or 11, it will copy the contents of all the backed up TRASHER folders into the appropriate spot inside TRASHER 11 for PT 10.3.5+ content.

This will work for both PT 11 and 10.3.5 and above, but specifically built for the dual install of both 11 and 10.3.6+

Slightly different design

Many new features to address the changes off PT 11. Highly recommend going through the 11 Read Me before using.

I would like to start a simple site to host and off better support and communication for users. Things are quite spread out and proving difficult to keep up. I would ask any donations toward this cause would be appreciated.

New Icon

Any users of PT 10.3.5 and up are highly encouraged to update to this build.

If you have a previous build installed, Nothing needs changed except the .exe file (NOT the installer .exe) and the main Read Me.pdf
Just Delete the previous .exe off of your desktop
(and unpin from Taskbar or Start menu)

yes, i have that in the read me. it is because it contains an .exe file that the antivirus does not recognize. might have to shut it down temporarily to download and extract it. if the program is still trying to recognize it as a virus or automatically deletes it, you might have to make the program "ignore" it. most antivirus will give you that option though before it deletes it.

Re: Trasher 10, a PT utility app for Windows users

Even Symantec quarantined Trasher moving Trasher from one partition to another. That only happened once but like many simply temporarily disabling antivirus solved any problem.

It's not working for me PT 10.2 windows 7 64 bit pro. I followed the directions. I tried it off the desktop and from the c drive documents folder. It tells me it's probably not in the right location.

I clicked a couple of the options and it screwed with pro tools too. It popped up a bunch of ilok errors when I tried loading PT preventing it to load at all.. I did a windows restore point.

The entire TRASHER folder needs to be in your documents folder of the drive its running on. If your OS and PT is running on F: for instance, it must be in the F: Documents folder. Cannot be inside of any other folders or anything else. The .exe can be ran from the desktop or pinned to the start menu.

Make sure you are in the 64 bit tab.

It's a very basic script at heart. There is no way i have found that would cause any ilok/pace errors. If it can not do the function or cannot find the folder or files its after, it does nothing and throws up an error. The only thing I could possibly think of is if PT is running when trying to use it.

Let me know of any questions

i have not tested it on W8 yet. i can not say it will work at this time. i will have it ready by the time PT is qualified for W8. hopefully sooner if all goes well. but you are free to give it a try!! :D

10.3.5 is not completely compatible with Trasher 10. An update will be on the way soon. Will post it in the first post of this thread.

Re: Trasher 10, a PT utility app for Windows users

Ok so in my case I have drive structure thus;

Raid-1, Drive 0 - 3 partitions
C:/ (50gb) Operating system files only (win7 x64 Ult). The RTAS stuff is on there right now as well but that is the topic of another post.
D:/ (40GB) temp files drive. (windows swap file, various app use if for storing temporary files)
E:/ (360GB) Application data drive only. This is where ProTools is installed but the installer has splattered files to C:/ as well which I am attempting to rectify. I wish that when one tells an installer to install an application to E:/ that it would at least give one an option to choose to NOT clutter the OS drive with stuff and to indeed put ALL of the application on E:/...

RAID-0, Drive 1 - 1 Partition
F:/ (1 TB) Project files, audio/video files, recording and playback occurs on this drive

Where does the TRASHER utility reside in the above instance? There is no "documents" folder on E:/. Protools is "installed" to E:/ drive. Docs folder is on C:/ drive with the OS. just FYI...

Re: Trasher 10, a PT utility app for Windows users

Does your system actually work like this??? or are you troubleshooting??

Your OS and apps should all be on the same drive. PT is going to look on this drive for its needed components such as plugins. PT is not selectable like most apps that host VST where you can point them to the directory or multiple directorys of plugins. There is nothing to gain by splitting them up this way and is only going to be problematic.

The Weed 05-28-2013 10:21 AM

Re: Trasher 10, a PT utility app for Windows users

When he says "the same drive" he means the C: drive where your OS, Pro Tools and plug-ins should all be installed. No RAID, no splitting up programs and folders or, problems.

Cheers,

Re: Trasher 10, a PT utility app for Windows users

This is a great 3rd party tool (PT crashes so frequently) but why doesn't Avid provide this as part of PT? It would also be interesting to have a tool that analyses the preferences etc. and provides a summary of the health (and why not compatibility) of your system. Once again, Avid could provide a tool like this. I would think that it could help Avid to keep support requests to the minimum, too.

Re: Trasher 10, a PT utility app for Windows users

hey Guitardom,

When I use your (awesome) trasher 10.5+ on PT version 10.3.6, I am experiencing the following: When I try to recycle the PT preferences..it tells me the "pt preferences folder cannot be found" but when I look in my recycle bin, the folder appears as if it were located and moved into there. Do you have any idea as to why I am getting this? Am I missing a folder?

Thanks
Lou

Hey Louie, Interesting.

When you look in the Recycle bin after deleting the PT Prefs, you should have a folder just labeled "Pro Tools 10" and a file named "DefaultProToolsMIDISetup.dms" IF either of these files is missing, you will get the error you speak of. It WILL delete the file or folders that it finds, but will give you that error to say it cant find something, but not specific as to what.

I am basically done with the new build for 11/10.3.6 Co-install setup. I have modified the error windows a bit that might help some. But have changed it a bit. The actual code though for the 10.3.6 has not changed. Just some modifications. Should be out this weekend if all goes as planned.

Thank you for the reply. I only get the pt folder i do not see the midisetup.dms etc.. file.. Even after a fresh reinstall i still got the error. I will just hold tight until you release the new version. Will you post the link in your signature and or in this thread? And thanks again for this time saver. :D

=========Correction=====

that midi setup file IS inside of the pT preferences file... AND another thing I noticed is that i believe the error message is displayed a couple milliseconds after another message. I think it is actually successfully completing the command but for some reason, it is still displaying the error message...weird. Hope this helps.

I will have it posted as an update in a couple threads, so no problem and my signature will take you there as well.

I will check this out a bit though as currently I cannot repro it. But IF the files are in the recycle bin, obviously you are good to go!!

Thanks for the info.

Can you verify if you are using build 5.5 or 5.6??
After going through, 5.5 should have your error, but not 5.6.
It would NOT show on 5.5 IF you have PT 11 installed.

No biggie,
I have the update done for 5.7 of Trasher 10.5 and a new build for 11/10.3.5+ done. I just need to create an .exe and they are ready to go. I am debating on whether to setup a website to host all the Trasher builds and be able to easily screen questions and post updates. Of course that takes money, so deciding if its worth it. It is getting a bit tedious keeping track of this as it is now spread out over multiple forums and threads!!

edit: Believe I found another issue on build 5.6 and why it was giving the error. It was not affecting any performance or missing any of the needed files.
