Import audio to new tracks takes forever

Hi!
When I choose import to new tracks, it takes forever at "creating tracks.."
Pro Tool goes into 'Not responding" but if I wait around 5~10 minutes, I can finally import to tracks.. If I choose import to clips, I can import right away..
Any idea?

Pro Tools ultimate native (latest version), iMac pro(Mojave)

Could do with full system info. While waiting for that have you done all the optimizations required? What else do you have running while working in PT? What specific version of PT do you have?

Certainly more info would be helpful, but... is "Enable Elastic Audio on New Tracks" checked in "processing" tab in preferences?

That^^^ and is there SRC involved?
