Eleven Rack compatibility options?

Before my question I'll start with what I'm working with:

Eleven Rack hardware connected straight to my computer via usb 2.0 port
-running Pro Tools 8 LE that came with Eleven Rack

PC: Origin 'gaming computer,' very powerful, bought in 2012 and thing is still kicking ass and taking names

OS: Windows 7 with latest updates

I am gearing up to 'rebuild' the software on my PC so I can upgrade it to the latest version of windows, but I'm pretty sure PT 8LE is not compatible with the newest version of windows. So I have two choices here; either a) upgrade pro tools to a version that is compatible (preferably 12) or b) switch over to a different DAW.

From what I've read and researched I can't upgrade from 8 to 12, not even buy an upgrade, I just have to buy 12 outright. I just wanted to double check that this is accurate? Is there any way around this (like could I upgrade from 8 to say 9 and then from there get to 12?) or is that the only option.

Second question; if I were to decide to switch DAW's am I able to use my Eleven Rack as my interface, or will I need a secondary interface to go between my 11Rack and my PC? If so is there any you guys would recommend that are good bang for your buck? To give you an idea; this is a home studio set up, and I don't need more than a few mic inputs as I mostly track vocals and guitars (definitely don't need to mic up a drum kit or anything like that at the present time).

Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: Eleven Rack compatibility options?

First question: You can not upgrade from PT8 to PT12 anymore. You need to get a perpetual PT12 or a secondhand Perpetual licensee.

You could go the monthly sub route but PT12 will stop if and when you decide to get out.

So 11 Rack will work on other DAW's as it is USB and has its own driver.

So .. second hand PT12 usually cost about 250-300 US Dollars as that is a great option for you. The 11 rack works good with PT12 so no need for any further investment in interfaces.

The Eleven Rack does not mute its internal monitoring path when used an interface with non-Pro Tools DAWs. That has been discussed on DUC before. It may or may not be an issue to you in practice.
