increase H/W buffer size error

I have a intel i7 with EVGA x58 motherboard 6 gb ram, running vista home premium 32 bit with 1 hard drive for operating system (western digital 500gb) and a seagate 1.5 tb to save the music on. I am running a mbox2 mini with protools 8.0 LE

Everytime i run pro tools i set the track to record than master record, hit the space bar to record and BOOM right away i get the increase H/W buffer size error. So i go to play engine and increase/decrease no matter what size i have it set too this error pops up right away. it wont let me record at all. please help.

Dgrim.....As a total noob with this program, I was having alot of the same problems you are. TOTALLY worth the effort going into the set up and doing EXACTLY as it says. I wasn't really sure that it was that important and kept fighting to try and get buffer space, h/d space, etc to work and it never did. Once you do EVERYTHING on the list......it works like a champ! It literally takes no more than probably 15 minutes to accomplish everything on the list. The biggest pain is the restarts, but again it's a 100% must do....

Re: increase H/W buffer size error

ok so i have done everything it said to do in the set up, i have tried using the windows drivers for my video card, i have installed the latest update from yesterday the cs3. i have tried using all different combinations in the play engine. changed the # of processors. i think i have tried it all and i still get the "operating system held off interrupts for too long error" i cant even record a track, play back anything, it just immediately pops up. i have a sandra report now and here it is. hopefully someone will notice something causing the problems. please help.

Re: increase H/W buffer size error

Disable superfetch. Causes nothing but problems and lag. I had the same issues on Vista and couldn't record at 128 samples until I did that. Also, if you have itunes loaded make sure you disable Apple Mobile Device service. These 2 services kill ProTools right off the bat..

Curious. What's superfetch?

Re: increase H/W buffer size error

There is a service that comes with Vista called Superfetch. I didn't even know about this until recently but apparently what it does it attempt to figure out what programs you use a lot and preload the software in the background so when you go to launch it it's faster. Really dumb in my opinion and really sucks up resources. I have Vista Home but I assume it's on all of them. You can disable by right clicking on my computer, go to manage and then drill down to services.
