High pitched whine
I bought my Mbox last July. I've used it primarily for mixing tracks I recorded on a 16 track digital recorder. Since this was just stuff I was doing to learn Pro Tools, I didn't set up a set of monitors to mix through; just used headphones.
When I first got the Mbox, I noticed a high pitched whine that started whenever Pro Tools or Reason Adapted would start up. I didn't really think much about it then. But in the last couple of weeks, I've built a dedicated system to use based on the Allenstein specs...i.e. ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, 1 gig ram, X1300 video, 80 gig ide boot drive, 250 gig SATA audio drive. Finally tonight, I got to the point of installing Pro Tools. I bought the version 7 upgrade a couple of months ago. First thing I noticed was the high-pitched whine. So, different computer, different version of Pro Tools, same Mbox, same whine. I guess the question is, do I have a bad Mbox? I'm not sure what the warranty length is; I've not had it a year yet. Anyone have any ideas? Glen |
Re: High pitched whine
Had the same problem. Move your MBox as far away from your monitor as possible. You can test this by switching off your monitors while you hear the whine. Maybe?

Re: High pitched whine
See the thread "noisey mbox". (on page two today) It's probably not defective, a lot of people experience this.

Re: High pitched whine
Tried that, the whine is still there...

Re: High pitched whine
Well, I'm kind of feeling dumb about now. For the life of me, I can't find a thread titled "noisy M-Box". You don't happen to have a direct URL to the thread do you?

Re: High pitched whine
OK, thanks. Looks to be basically a cabling issue, ie, the USB cable to the mbox. I'm pretty sure I'm using the one that came with it (not 100% sure though), but I'll go spend the money on an HQ cable and see if that does the job.
