New PowerMacs ...any rumors ????
 

Hi, I've been waiting for the new PowerMacs to come out .....any rumors of when that might be...it's been a while now since Apple has updated that product line.

I just asked a knowledgeable source the same thing today, it looks like no new G5's until June.

I read in Mac Format that there is a rumor going around about Apple considering releasing Power Mac's with "4" G5 processors???

They'll have to ship those in ice!

Yes, the articles found here:

seem to indicate that dual-core or quad processor G5's will be announced in June.

But why wait? If a new mac now will allow you to do a project that you otherwise would be unable to do, it will probably pay for itself.

What a bummer... now LE will only work 1 out of 4 CPUs instread of 1 of 2...

If that happens, then mark my words - I'm moving to Logic, DP, or Nuendo. I really wouldn't want to, but my hand would be forced at that point.

I'm thinking Nuendo would be my second pick if I were to ever leave PT entirely. Not crazy about neither DP or Logic's interface. I'm working with another producer who uses Logic, and it makes it awkward to keep rendering files back and forth since I'm an Ableton/PT guy. Besides, watching him edit audio in Logic is like watching someone trying to fold a road map the wrong way.

I can't believe that in their version 7, they still haven't given their users more intuitive editing, and it's even more alarming that Mr. Jobs can actually watch this at the briefing and think all is ok, be told this is how to edit audio, then giving his stamp of approval. Logic is bloated, ugly, dark, icons and buttons everywhere, yuk, a stark contradiction to most things Apple. I will only give Logic another chance (yes, I did try and it's like someone stole the big red 'easy' button you see on that tv ad) if, and only if, they totally redesign the interface and make it look like something workable.

Nuendo, on the other hand, is said to have one of the best sound engines around, with a straight forward interface, great plugs, QT, ReWire, ADC, VST, etc....

That said, I wouldn't jump ship based on PT still not using dual processors in a future upgrade. I don't really care about that, gimme auto-latency compensation, gimme better looping functions, gimme an integrated browser which lets me preview the files at the song's tempo while the song is playing, then let me drag & drop it and stretch it on the fly if need be, etc......and so on. A kick ass G5 loaded with ram should take care of most people's needs, IMO...
