Pt 2020.5

All,

I have been testing PT Ultimate 2020.5, to see if it will work better than 2019.5 does for us.

For the most part I have found that it is ok, but there are a few behaviours that I would like to see if anyone else has run into.

1.) If a breakpoint is close to a clip edge, occasionally 2020.5 will ignore the automation, or otherwise playback improperly. Example: breakpoint automation is on a clip edge and is pulling the clip down 6dB. Occasionally, playback will ignore the breakpoint and playback the clip 6dB too hot.

2.) Playback seems to continue slightly after hitting stop. This seems to be consistent and happens whether I have post roll enabled or not. This is kind of annoying. I seem to remember this being an issue on an older version at one point and there being a not obvious solution to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Randall

I have been using 2020.5 for a bit. I haven't been able to replicate those issues.

I'm still on Mojave, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

For the playback continuing... The playback cursor seems to visually keep going after my out point, but the audio playback does stop at the correct out point. It is visual, but not audio on my end.

I read your post a few days ago and thought 'whatever,' haven't seen it. Now I'm taking a break from a full mix pass and I'm seeing Pro Tools ignore the Auto Join in Latch mode, just like you saw. It hits a cliff edge volume change and the VCA kicks into latch and looks like it's writing the correct automation, but what's coming out of the speakers is totally wrong. Totally repeatable.:eek::mad:

Do you have a support ticket in? Should I make one?

Not seeing your #2 issue.

Re: Pt 2020.5

Does the automation issue also happen on 'regular' automation or only on a vca?
I drag down volume automation from clip edge to clip edge a LOT on background fx

Good question about ‘regular automation.’ I don’t know, but Avid support requested that I send a video, which I did. And automation playback sounded right to me when I did my last pass last night. So maybe the issue is restricted to certain functions. I don’t use offline bounce, so I’ll just keep listening (as always).

Thanks for looking into this. I do not yet have a support ticket in. I will try to get one in this week.

Thanks,
Randall

Re: Pt 2020.5

I'm seeing this as well in PT 2019.6 now, send levels pulled up or down by an entire selection (so there are only breakpoints on the outer edges) can be ignored when playback is started near those edges (or so it seems).

I thought I was fairly safe being still on 2019.6

I back-reved to 2019.5 and it seems to be ok.
