How is 2020.11 ?

Hi,

I'm wondering if post people are using 2020.11, and if it's running well with video. I'm using 2020.5 on my 2013 MacPro on Mojave with no problems. Do you think it's OK to jump to 2020.11 on Mojave?

I'm curious too, especially if bounce to video is working properly. I'm still hunkering down with 2019.6, also on Mojave. Curious about Big Sur too if anyone is on a super up to date system.

Big Sur is not supported, do not upgrade!

Well, I gave 2020.11 a go on my maxed out Mac Mini running Mojave and the results were not good. I tested a large film mix that ran fine in 2019.6 (CPU generally 50-80%, no chokes) but in 2020.11 it was choking and freezing all over the place (70-90%+ CPU between overload errors). So I've gone back to 2019.6.

I'm using it on a couple of films I'm mixing at the moment and it's fine on Catalina.
Just one annoying graphics thing where you can't see a preview of a file dragged from the clips list unless transparency is on.
Everything else is ok.

If I install 2020.11 and have problems is it a simple matter to uninstall it and reinstall 2020.5?

Uh yes it _should_ be... but who knows what bad strange corner case might break things... and screw you. In which case you have a bootable backup right? And other backups? Maybe better test on a clone or clean systems image that is just for testing...

No info about what OS you are on, but often there is no need to uninstall anything (or no way to for the core product on Mac, and likewise usually no need to drag anything to the trash etc.). Corner cases you might into with this are things like ending up with fragmented versions of plugins or some plugins updated that then don't roll back cleanly when you reinstall the older version. But it's not clear that 2019.11 even updates any of the core plugins.

Noticed the 2020.11 Windows stock plug-ins folder is slightly smaller than 2020.9.1 (see pics)

Does this mean anything? (apart from "I should get down to work!")

Just rename the Pro Tools app in your applications folder to Pro Tools 2020.5 before you install the latest one so it doesn't get overwritten. This way you can just open one or the other without issues.

I'm running some large track count film mixes. Seems to be fine, maybe a little better than the previous version.

I'm also using an h264 mp4 file in pro tools and it's working(!)

I usually use video slave, but I imported an mp4 just to check it out. I have been working all day and forgot that I wasn't using video slave. Pretty great.

I'm using Catalina, so I don't know how well it will work on Mojave.
