What's the maximum # of audio tracks I can have in PT10, Non HD in 96K?

I have an mbox 3 pro and currently record at 96K. I have Pro Tools 10, regular version, not HD.

And yes, I did try checking Avid's site, but for some reason I keep getting a page encryption error and I can't even load there home site.

Only 48? Hmm I'm not sure if most people use all 48 for a basic song or if I should switch down to 48K to record. I've heard people get all pissed off saying 48k sucks, and that 96 is better, but people say that most music listeners can't even tell the difference. And since mastering is done at 16 bit 44.1k im just so confused as to what all this hooplah means.

Well, consider a few things; that 48 tracks(@96K) can be any or all STEREO. Plus you can do dozens of VI instruments on Instrument tracks(which don't count as audio tracks at all). How many hit songs were recorded to 32 tracks(Pro Tools older versions) 24 tracks(2" tape), 16 tracks(like Yes's Fragile album) or a pair of 4 tracks(the Beatles?)? My point is, music doesn't NEED to occupy 100 tracks(does it?). Moving to your second point about sample rate, I heartily agree that 96K is not required for most stuff. DVD audio is 48K, CD audio is 44.1K and mp3's.........let's not even go there:p. 99% of my work is done at 48K and still ends up on iTunes and youtube:o My best advice; make great music at 48K. It will go a lot farther than crap music at 96K:D
