S3 vs Artist Mix (2X)

I am on Logic X - now the Mix has VCA spill and the Dock plays with both, what would you say are the main advantages of the S3 over two Mix's? Leveraging the two rows of encoders somehow and the layout buttons and improved quality of knobs interest me but the I/O does not (have UAD Apollo). Quite a price difference - interested in tangible benefits of the S3 over two mixes.

Hmmm, Artist Mix x2(used) is about $1100. S3(used) about $3500.
2 rows of encoders and several navigation keys give a clear advantage to the S3(I find the Artist Mix is not so great beyond having good faders). While you may not NEED the IO(and Windows users can't use it anyway), it still might come in handy(maybe a quick remote recording, or as a backup if your usual interface craps out?).

It really comes down to price, but I think the S3 wins on nearly every other level. Of course, you might also consider a used C24(around $4k for a clean used one) or hang on while Nyrinck finishes their software to allow ProControl and Control24 surfaces to work(which appears to be for real)

Meanwhile, visit youtube and watch some videos on the S3 as you may find some more reasons to help make your choice:o

I used to have 2 x Artist mix and now an S3, which I do much prefer....

- Coloured LED's to help identify tracks/parameters quickly (I definitely find this the biggest single advantage)
- 2 rows of encoders
- Better build quality, and much nicer feel to the knobs
- Many more assignable buttons
- You don't have a gap half way through your bank of faders that you have with 2 x Artist Mix
- Looks nicer!
- I never use the I/O but it will be a bonus for some people

Great video Anthony.
As a user of the S3 myself it's great to see other ways of doing things too!

Thanks for suggestions on benefits of S3. And the video is quite good - featuring layouts and automation buttons and smoothness of automation movement.

Like to see more use cases leveraging two rows of encoders and even adding the 8 encoders with the dock.

Interesting it actually shows eq on one row and dynamics on other row. Thanks.

It's worth mentioning that my Artist Mix took a jump up in fader performance last year when using current Eucon and Pro Tools software versions.
