Antares AMM-1 Mic Modeler

I've seen this item on Antares' web site at their 'blowout' price ($299.00 USD). What do you think of this hardware? Is the plugin better? Is it one of those 'have to have' items? Convince me to buy or not to buy...

Thanks in advance,

I don't think there'd be any harm in having one to toy with. I'd try and treat it as an effect rather than something that can make a mic sound like another mic.
You aren't going to get an C12 or a U47 from that piece of gear. Personally I'd set the money aside and save more to get real mics.

Another note, the mic modeler plugin is mac only. If you are a PC user.. get the hardware version.

The hardware mic modeler is handy for giving an SM58 some zip on stage, no earthly purpose in the studio.
